Indore's junior doctors join strike

Indore, Sep 18 (UNI) Junior doctors of local medical college today joined in the strike by their colleagues across Madhya Pradesh to protest the Medical Council of India's decision to curtail post graduate seats in all five medical colleges due to shortage of infrastructure and staff.

Health services in hospitals attached with the medical colleges remained paralysed due to the strike, health officials said.

Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital's Superintendent Dr C B Kulkarni claimed that despite the strike, health services were being maintained with senior doctors manning OPD. Besides, leave of doctors was cancelled. Services of doctors from ESI hospitals had been enlisted at the medical college hospital, he said.

Junior Doctors Association's Indore unit President Amogh Nayak said OPD remained paralysed. Graduate students also boycotted their classes, he added.
