Ganesh idols immersed in River Cauvery

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 18: The Vinayaka Chathurthi procession, barring some minor scuffle between groups by and large went off peacefully in the city last night.

Police said about 120 Ganesh idols from different parts of the city were taken out in a procession and immersed in the River Cauvery.

Six persons were injured in separate group clashes during the procession. Police made a mild lathicharge and dispersed them near the Anna statue.

The injured were admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital here, police said.

Similar procession were taken out in various places in the district, including Musiri, Jeeyapuram, Manaparai, and immersed in the river.
