Mumbai, Sep 15 2007: Over the centuries, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, which was just a family affair, has gained the status of being a social event.

This festival, which is dedicated to the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, Ganesh, has gained so much popularity that the preparations for the festivities begin at least a fortnight in advance.
