Physically challenged attempts immolation near HC over demolition

New Delhi, Sept 17 (UNI) A 37-year-old physically challenged person today attempted immolation in front of the Delhi High Court to protest the demolition of his shop.

A resident of Kailash Colony in South Delhi, Kumar Kaushal attempted suicide by dousing himself with kerosene at about 1000 hrs in front of the High Court, said the police.

''He was caught before he could set himself on fire.'' He told, during interrogation, that he wanted to highlight his plight as his tailoring shop in Kailash Colony, which was an unauthorised construction, was being demolished.

A case of 'attempt to suicide' has been registered against him at the Tilak Marg police station.

The ongoing demolition drive, being carried out by the Municipal Corporation was being done in deference to the orders of the High Court.
