2 killed, two washed away as penstock pipe bursts

Idukki, Kerala, Sep 17 (UNI) Two people were killed and as many washed away as penstock conduit pipe carrying water from the Ponmudi Dam to the Panniyar Power Station burst this evening at Vellathuval, near here.

More than 15 houses and a large area of agricultural land were submerged in the incident.

Police said one of the three pipes burst at 1645 hrs. They said efforts were on to evacuate people to safety from the nearby areas.

The situation was brought under control after the valve was closed, police added.
