Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Sep 16 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder-Leader S Ramadoss today promised to convey to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi the people's sentiments against the setting up of a 1,320 MW power project here by the Cuddalore Power Company (CPC).

Speaking at a public hearing on the project at Thiagavalli Panchayat here, Dr Ramadoss said he would remind the Chief Minister of his promise made in the Tamil Nadu Assembly that the government would not acquire even a single cent of land without the consent of the farmers and advise him against setting up the project on the fertile land, thereby displacing its owners and destroying the environment.

He would suggest the setting up of the Rs 6,400 crore project on wastelands, thereby preventing the displacement of residents while protecting the environment.

The coal-based project had invited much opposition from the public with the government virtually banning any land transactions on the project area.
