NMPT registers 32% growth in cargo handling

Mangalore, Sep 16 (UNI) The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has registered a growth of 32 per cent in handling container cargo till August this year.

In a release here today, NMPT Chairman Tamilvannan said the port had handled about 8128 TEUs till August this year compared to 6139 TEUs in the corresponding period last year.

He said the port's container handling capacity would scale up with the commencement of service of new Container Feeder Vessel 'M V Kinship Bangar' from the port.

The new vessel, with a capacity of 354 TEUs, would service once in eight days.

Mr Tamilvannan said to cope up with the growing container traffic, the port would provide more infrastructure facilities.

The works for a container yard with paver blocks, measuring 40,000 sqmt, were nearing completion, he added.
