IGNOU, ISRO JV for satellite communication

New Delhi, Sep 16: To provide an edge in the field of research and education in satellite communication, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has joined hands with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to set up an 'ISRO chair' at the prestigious university.

The 'chair' would identify technological gaps between needs of users of satellite, for education purposes, and technological solutions provided by ISRO with the objective to provide leadership in the development of satellite communication.

Besides conducting training workshops and seminars for educationists and for maintainence of satellite communication areas, both the institutions will also develop suitable curriculum for operation and maintenance of satellite communication ground systems as well.

The tenure of the 'chair' would be for three years with provision for extending it to another three years.
