Jamshedpur, Sep 16 (UNI) The District Bar Association (DBA) today demanded action against the police in connection with the abduction and murder of a senior advocate at Sonari area here.

A delegation of the DBA, led by its president M P Banerjee and secretary S K Choudhary, submitted a memorandum to East Singhbhum Superintendent of Police N K Singh demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family of the deceased and suspension of the officer-in-charge of Sonari police station.

They also demanded action against two Deputy Superintendents of Police Sangeeta Kumari and S Kujur and other senior officials for thier alleged failure to save advocate Sadhan Chatterjee's life.

Mr Chatterjee (55) was kidnapped by one Arvind Guha, said to be A client of the advocate, on July 31 and kept in captivity in the latter's house for one and a half month.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house yesterday and tried to rescue the advocate. The rescue operation wen t on out for at least five hours and finally the police managed to enter the house by breaking open the door.

However, on seeing the police enter the house, the kidnapper and his wife attacked the advocate and injured him fatally.

He was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital but later succumbed to his injures.

The couple was arrested immediately as an irate mob tried to manhandle them.

A propery dispute had led the couple to kidnap and kill the advocate, police said.

DBA sources alleged that the reckless action by the police had led to the advocate losing his life.

They said the police should have executed the operation more cautiously as the couple had already threatened to kill Mr.

Meanwhile, DBA members have decided to abstain from attending court tomorrow to protest the murder.

The body had been sent for post mortem, police said.
