Pratapgarh, Sep 15 (UNI) Reproaching the Congress led-UPA at the centre for challenging the existence of Lord Ram, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath today said raising such questions would only spell trouble.

''Lord Ram and Krishna are icons of the country. Challenging their existence would not only be subversive, but also hurt the religious sentiments of crores of Hindus,'' he said while interacting with reporters here.

''By doing so, the Left historians have exhibited their deep ignorance about Lord Ram and Krishna. It is an honour for the country, that UNESCO, included the Rig Ved 'mantras' in world heritage,'' the BJP MP observed.

He clarified that ''I am not against the Sethusamudram Project, but an alternative arrangement must be made.'' Replying to a question, he said during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime at the centre in 2003, Sethusamudram project was given a nod, but a report relating to environment and national security had been demanded before starting the work.

However, the UPA government gave nod to the project without addressing the objections, the BJP leader maintained.
