Woman's death sparks violence, police vehicles torched

Moradabad, Sep 14 (UNI) A mob today torched three police vehicles, following the death of a woman under the wheels of a PAC truck here.

According to police, irate villagers had taken to street protesting the anti-encroachment drive in Linepar area for Deendayal Puram Housing Scheme.

During the drive, a woman came under the wheels of a PAC truck and died.

Incensed over the incident, the mob set ablaze the truck and two other police vehicles.

To disperse the demonstrators, police fired tear gas shells and lathicharged the unruly mob.

Later, police in strength was deployed to prevent fresh violence.

So far, 20 people had been arrested for violence.

The situation, at present, was reported to be under control.
