SC Association demands inquiry into procurement of Pontex clothes

Puducherry, Sep 14 (UNI) The Puducherry Government Scheduled Caste Staff Association today demanded a judicial probe into the procurement of low quality clothes from Pontex for free distribution to poor Dalits during festival seasons.

Addressing a press conference here, Association Secretary C Balasundaram demanded that polyester clothes be distributed to the BPL Dalits.

Condemning former CPI(M) Secretary T Murugan for his stand of supplying Pontex clothes to the Dalits and thereby adopting an 'anti-Dalit' stand, he demanded that Mr Murugan be expelled from the party.

Mr Balasundaram alleged that the government was ignoring the Dalits' rights and welfare schemes and concessions and alleged that the fund meant for the special component plan of the Dalits was being diverted to the public fund.

Eventhough, the Dalits got favourable verdicts from court in respect of their promotion and transfer, the administration had not implemented those verdicts, he added.

He said no reservation for Dalits were implemented in the 56 Government Corporations and Boards. The age relaxation and experience relaxation allowed by the Centre for Dalits were not being considered.
