Personnel to be available 24 hours for rain relief works

Bangalore, Sept 14 (UNI) Karnataka Health Minister R Ashok, who is also Bangalore Urban District Incharge Minister, today said that he had asked the Bruhat Bangalore Mananagar Palike (BBMP) personnel to be available round the clock to take up relief works following heavy rains in the past two days.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that he had asked the BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya to be available at the Corporation office round the clock for coordinating with the teams set up to take up the works in the rain-hit areas particularly in the southern parts of the city.

He said that 60 teams had been formed to take up the works in the rain-hit areas.

The city had received about 100 mm rain last night and 80mm the previous day flooding low lying areas. Many house have been damaged and the rain has already claimed two lives due to house collapse following torrential rain on Wednesday night.

He said that the officials are assessing the extent of damages.
