Life convicts observe fast, demanding remission in sentence

Puducherry, Sep 14 (UNI) A few life convicts of central prison here today observed a fast, demanding remission in their sentence for good behaviour in view of the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

The life convicts, observing fast, stated that the Tamil Nadu government was releasing prisoners on Anna's birth anniversary and demanded that the authority concerned release the prisoners here also.

Meanwhile, Jail Superintendent Durga Prasad held talks with them and assured that their demands would be placed before the government, though the Puducherry government had no powers to release the prisoners as in Tamil Nadu.
