Kochi, Sep 14 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today asked Urban Affairs Director A Shajahan to withdraw his order saying shops cannot use plastic bags below 50 micron thickness.

In his order on a contempt petition filed by All Kerala Plastic Dealers Association, Justice Thottathil Radhakrishnan directed Mr Shajahan to withdraw the order issued on March 29, 2007 to secretaries of all the local authorities.

The petitioners referred to an order of the court on February 8, 2007 which only said plastic bags below 30 micron thickness were not permitted for use. But Mr Shajahan's directive was against this.

The government pleader submitted the officer was aware of the High Court order and instructions were issued to all secretaries not to enforce his order of 29, March 2007.

The court also asked Mr Shajahan to withdraw the direction and the affidavit.
