HC orders compensation for confinement in fake murder case
Patna,Sep14 (UNI)Patna High Court today directed the state government to pay compensation of Rs one lakh each to three persons for their illegal confinement and also realise the said amount from the erring police officers in connection with killing of a woman, which later proved to be fake.
Justice Navniti Prasad Singh issued the directive on a petition filed in this connection.
Counsel of the petitioner submitted before the court that Mahesh Ram alongwith his brother Ganesh Ram and friend Chandreo Ram was sent to jail in Begusarai district in connection with the killing of his wife Ranju Devi.They tried to convince the police that Ranju Devi was alive but the latter did not take cognisance of their plea.
Police had also taken confessional statement from them by meting out third degree treatment to them.
The counsel further contended that when Ganesh Ram came out from the jail on bail, he got Ms Ranju Devi arrested in Delhi where she was living with her second husband Rajesh.Later, he informed the Begusarai police but Mahesh and Chandradeo were released after two months after receipt of the information.
