HC grants blanket bail to Amarinder against arrest

Chandigarh, Sep 14 (UNI)) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted interim blanket bail till Tuesday next to former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and also issued notices to the Punjab governmnent and other respondent for September 18 when the matter would be considered further.

The order by Justice Ranjit Singh came on Capt Singh's plea for grant of blanket bail for any future case that might be registered against him by the Punjab Police or Vigilance Bureau or to give him a ten days notice if required to be arrested or qustioned in connection with any case, to enable him to arrange for legal assistance.

The petitioner has charged the present Badal government with pursuing political vendetta agauinst its opponents, especially against him (Capt Singh), his relatives and associates to implicate them in false cases and arrest them. In this connection he has cited cases including the recent arrest of former state police chief S S Virk, former media advisor B I S Chahal and others.
