Dalit man tortured; DGP orders arrest of accused in 24 hrs

Lucknow, 14 Sep (UNI) A Dalit man today alleged that he was tortured by a group of men, who the police is now trying to shield.

Taking cognizance of his allegation, state Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh ordered the arrest of the accused within 24 hours.

Indrapal of Lakhimpur Kheri claimed that following a rivalry, five men exposed him to live electricity wires causing him serious burns. He claimed that while police lodged an FIR and arrested the accused, a Dy SP later helped the accused get released.

The victim was brought to the office of the UP Congress. When reporters informed the DGP about the incident during a press conference on police recruitment scam, he ordered the arrest of the accused by tomorrow.

On August 29, the victim had written a complaint to the DGP in this regard.
