Congress demands dismissal of convicted Raj. Minister

Jaipur, Sep 14 (UNI) The Rajasthan congress unit has demanded the dismissal of State for Water Resources Minister Surendra Singh Rathore following his conviction in a four-year-old Mines Safey Act violation case.

The Party state president B D Kalla said here today that since the minister had been convicted and sentenced by a court, he had lost moral grounds to continue to in his post.

Mr Rathore should have tendered his resignation following his conviction but since he had not done so, Governor Mr Shilendra Kumar singh should dismiss him immediately, the Congress state chief demanded.

He said a party delegation has sought an appointment with the Governor later in the day to submit before him a formal memorandum in this regard.

Mr Rathore, a sitting MLA from Kumbhalgarh assembly segment of Rajsamand district, was handed a six month jail term and fine of Rs 2000 by a Rajsamand Court two days back in a case of violation of Mines Safety Act in mines owned by his family.
