Centre releases Rs 9 crore for mid-day meals in HP schools

Shimla, Sep 14 (UNI) The Union Government today released a sum of Rs nine crore to Himachal Pradesh to provide mid-day meals to 5.5 lakh students in 10,045 primary schools in eight districts of the state.

The official sources said the state education department had distributed the amount received from the Centre as part of the first installment for continuing with the mid-day meals in the state during 2007-08.

While Kangra district had been sanctioned a sum of Rs one crore, Mandi and Shimla districts received a sum of Rs 1.40 and Rs 1.20 crore respectively, Sirmaur district had received Rs 93.35 lakh, Una Rs 70.89 lakh and Solan Rs 70.91 lakh, the sources added.

Kullu district received Rs 74.88 lakh, Chamba 47.69 lakh and Bilaspur a sum of Rs 47 lakh for providing mid-day meals in primary schools, they further said.
