Aurangabad corporator convicted on assault charges

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 14 (UNI) A local court here has sentenced a Congress corporator, Mehrunnisa Hameed Khan alias ''Moti Bhabi'', and her son Saud Khan to one year's rigorous imprisonment for assaulting a man in her ward.

Chief judicial magistrate M S Bade also slapped a fine of Rs 1500 each on them.

Khan was accused of assaulting Abdul Hafiz, a resident of Rahat Colony over a flimsy reason when he was getting his electricity meter changed on January 20, 2006.

After asking the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) workers not to do the work, the corporator and her son had beaten up Hafiz, causing injury to his head.

Jinsi police had filed a chargesheet against her. Eight witnesses were examined in the case.
