Elephant creates panic during rehearsal

Mysore, Sep 13 (UNI) An elephant created panic among the people, including tourists, for some time by running amok in the Mysore palace premises during the rehearsal for Dasara procession here today.

According to forest officials, the 52 year-old Gajendra while pulling the historical wooden chariot, all of a sudden ran abruptly and came to a halt after hitting against the chariot's iron rod, damaging one wheel and yoke.

The mahout, who was totally taken aback over the elephant's behaviour, later took it to its shed.

It was stated that a female elephant Varalakshmi, which was walking along with Gajendra provoked the pachyderm.
