Workshop on community media from Sep 13

Puducherry, Sep 11 (UNI) To promote awareness about the relevance of community media in a world of digital divides, the DHAN Foundation of Tamil Nadu, along with VOICES (Karnataka), SPACE (Kerala) and NCKRC (Puducherry), in association with UNDP (Chennai), will organse a two-day workshop at Auroville near here on September 13 and 14.

HAN Media Coordinator R Sivakumar in a release said the workshop would focus on the ramification of the community radio policy, the possibilities of technology in strengthening community media and the need to forge networks and alliances.

Participants would be from community media practitioners involved in community radio, video stations, photography initiatives, print-based initiatives and new media efforts.

Sivakumar said virtually a year had passed since the Centre endorsed guidelines, enabling community radio a reality. However, grass-root communities were not able to get a community radio station of the ground, though campus radio was operational since 2000.
