VHP BJP activists held in Tiruchirapalli

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 12 (UNI) Hundreds of VHP and BJP activists, including women, were taken into custody by the police today when they attempted road and rail roko stirs against the centre's move to demolish the mythical RamSethu or Adams Bridge in the ongoing dredging work on the Sethu Samudhram Canal Project (SSCP).

The VHP and BJP volunteers, who attempted to stage stirs in Tiruchirapalli, Perambalur, Karur and Pudukkottai districts, urged the Union Government to immediately stop the demolition and protect the historic bridge.

BJP state Vice-President H Raja, who led the stir along with party workers at the busy Anna statue here were taken into custody.

Another group of partymen and members of the All India Kisan Sangh (AIKS) and Ramar Sethu Bridge Protection Committee led by state AIKS General Secretary P Ayyakannu were arrested when they attempted to stage a rail roko agitation at the Railway Junction here.
