Rupee jumps further; opens at 40.50/52 per dollar

Mumbai, Sep 12: Buoyed by abundant capital inflows to domestic equities, Rupee today rose further and kicked off the trade at 40.50/52 per dollar, nearly five paise up from the last close of 40.55/56.

During the intra-day it touched a high of 40.46 per dollar and is currently (1115 hrs) trading at 40.49/50 per dollar, a dealer said with Development Credit Bank.

'' There was a farely good demand from corporates which may even push the unit to scale further heights'', he said.

Despite the sharp appreciation of the currency Reserve bank chose to keep away from the forex market so far in the day, according to sources.

Rupee's intra-day low was quoted as 40.53 per dollar.
