Man, paramour held for dowry harassment

Madurai, Sep 12 (UNI) Four persons, including a man and his paramour were arrested in a dowry harassment case at Melur, near here, today.

Police said the victim J Vinodha (22) married Jegan (31), in 2001 and 50 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs 2.5 lakh worth valuables were given as dowry.

However, Jegan's family demanded a sum of Rs five lakh for starting a new business, towards which the victim's family had given Rs 1.95 lakh in three installments.

As Vinodha's family did not comply with Jegan's demand for Rs five lakh, she was subjected to several harassments. Jegan developed extra-marital affair with one Azhagu Lakshmi and both of them tortured Vinodha and at one stage they also threatened to murder Vinodha, if she did not bring more dowry.

On a complaint from Vinodha, a case was registered and arrested Jegan, Azhagu Lakshmi and his parents.
