UP: Lakhs looted from post office

Jaunpur, Sep 12: Armed miscreants decamped with lakhs of rupees and cheque from a main post office here late last night, police said today.

At least five-six miscreants, who were suspected to be hiding inside the post office, decamped with Rs 24 lakh in cash, cheques worth Rs 18.5 lakh and some other post materials.

They brutally assaulted and tied up caretaker Amarnath before committing the crime.

According to accountant L N Prasad, the miscreants had looted Rs 24 lakh in cash and post materials, including draft cheques, worth Rs 44 lakh.

Investigation was on the nab the culprits.
