Villagers challenge allotment for residential lease

Allahabad, Sep 11 (UNI) The villagers of slain BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai's native village Goundaur, Ghazipur have filed a writ petitio in Allahabad High Court, challenging the allotment of ''khalihan land'' for residential lease.

Justice Janardan Sahai disposed off the writ petition asking the District Magistrate as well as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mohammadabad, Ghazipur that before making any allotment, the SDM shall consider the representation of the petitioners and examine as to whether the land could be legally allotted.

Petitioners Ram Bachan Rai and four others had filed a writ petition, saying the SDM was undertaking proceedings to allot certain land which is ''khalihan land'' to the private respondents.

It was mentioned that the consolidation operations in the village were going on.

It was also said the petitioners had already filed a representation in this regard to the SDM on July 23, 2007 and no decision as yet had been taken. It was also said no allotment had been made till date.
