Shiv Sena oppose implementation of Sachar panel recommendations
New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) Shiv Sena today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to implement the recommendations of Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee on the status of Muslims as it would lead to ''another division of the country on religious lines.'' A delegation of party MPs led by Shiv Sena Working President Uddav Thackeray met the Prime Minister here this morning and handed over a signed memorandum on behalf of Shiv Sena chief Bala Saheb Thackeray to this effect.
Talking to newspersons after a half an hour meeting, Mr Thackeray described the recommendations of Justice Sachar as ''the first step to divide the country.'' Reservations provided on religious ground would create rift and enmity in the society, he said. The delegation included former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha member Manohar Joshi and former Union Minister Anant Geete.
