RS adjourned till noon over demand for JPC on nuke deal

New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) The Rajya Sabha saw its proceedings stalled for the fourth consecutive day today by the Opposition adamant on its demand for constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to go into the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The Upper House could not take up questions, which are slated in the initial one hour of the day, as it was adjourned till noon within minutes of assembling for the day.

As soon as Chairman Hamid Ansari announced the question number to be taken up, Mr Murli Manohar Joshi, Ms Sushma Swaraj and other senior BJP and NDA besides UNPA members were on their feet reiterating their demand and pleading the Chair to suspend the Question Hour to enable them to raise the issue.

However, Mr Ansari assured them that he would allow the issue to be discussed but after the questions were taken up.

Meanwhile, BJP Member Mr Rudranarain Pany and some AIADMK members had left their seat and started moving towards the well of the House, prompting repeated appeals from Mr Ansari to resume their seats.

However, the Opposition Members continued with their protest and demand, forcing the Chair to announce adjournment of the House for an hour till noon.
