Sangrur, Sep 11 (UNI) Six people, including three constables, were injured today when police lathicharged on stone-pelting agitators who were demanding arrest of two people in connection with the murder of a farmer last month.

Police resorted to lathicharge when some people gathered outside the Deputy Commissioner's office here indulged in stone pelting in protest against the administration's failure to arrest two suspects, including a local advocate alleged to be the main accused behind the murder of young farmer Harjit Singh of Baguana village in the district.

Among the three injured were Harjit's sister Rajwinder Kaur and his friend Harpal Singh Vicky.

DSP Pritpal Singh said three constables were injured in stone pelting by the agitators who earlier tried to enforce a bandh in various parts of the city.

Deputy Commissioner V K Ohri said he would order an inquiry by a PCS officer to look into the charges that some women were among those lathicharged by the police.

He said he would urge the state Director General of Police (DGP) to entrust the inquiry into the murder to a police chief of another district if the family members of deceased were not satisfied with the ongoing probe.

Police had earlier arrested two people in connection with the murder of Harjit Singh who was killed on August 13 in a dispute over the passage of a school. Those arrested were school owner Sanjay Chauhan and his assistant Rakesh Kumar.

The family members of the deceased however alleged that the key accused in the murder was a local advocate Kiranjit Singh Sekhon and they had been pressing for his arrest along with one of his associates.
