Guwahati, Sep 11 (UNI) Several students of Tinsukia College of upper Assam today sustained minor injuries when police and CRPF jawans lathicharged them during National Highway 37 blockade.

The students of the college, under the banner of the students' union society, staged the NH 37 blockade near the college, demanding repair of the road and construction of speed breakers. General secretary of the union Mausam Baruah alleged that the students were beaten up without any provocation.

The lathicharge was carried out on the order of Magistrate Ankur Bharali, who rushed to the spot to negotiate with the student protestors. Ten students were also picked up.

They were, however, later released.

The students' body alleged that the district administration did not bother to address their grievances though the Magistrate on duty denied the charges of excess.

The students dispersed following the lathicharge.
