Puducherry, Sep 11 (UNI) The Puducherry Unit of the Nationalist Congress Party today urged the administration to take immediate steps for the provision of ten kilograms of rice free to all ration card holders in the Union territory.

Talking to newspersons here, NCP President G Sundaramurthy said the administration should purchase the required rice from the Food Corporation of India. The procurement of rice from private agents would lead to corruption, he added.

Condemning Welfare Minister M Kandasamy for his statement that the clothes manufactured by Pontex were not of good quality, Mr Sundaramurty urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take steps for the protection of handloom weavers.

He said due to lack of facility in the agriculture college at Karaikal, the students were not ready to opt for BSc agriculture in the college.

He also urged the administration to take immediate steps to bring down the price of construction materials.

Pointing out the pathetic condition of roads in the territory, he criticised the government for providing Rs one crore subsidy to construct hotels.
