Monsoon rain lashes many areas in north-west region

Chandigarh, Sep 11 (UNI) Monsoon rain lashed many areas in north-west India overnight, providing respite from humid weather conditions in the region.

Light to moderate rain pounded several areas in Punjab with Ranjit Sagar Dam site, recording 8.2 mm downpour, followed by Ludhiana measuring 8.0 mm and Shahpur Kandi 7.6 mm rain overnight. The holy city of Amritsar also had rainfall, recording 4.0 mm downpour till this morning.

However, rains eluded most areas in Haryana. Hissar recorded 0.5 mm rainfall since last night.

Rains also lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills of the state. Bhang was the wettest place in the hilly state, recording 20.8 mm downpour overnight while Gamroor registered 9.4 mm, Manali 10.0 mm, Dhundi 8.0 mm, Rampur 2.5 mm and Kalpa 2.2 mm rainfall.

Some other areas, including, Sundernagar, Suni, Kassol and Petsio also experienced rain.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by rain last night. Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist places of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, also had rainfall forcing tourists to stay indoors.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas had respite from rains.

However, humid weather persisted with higher levels of humidity recorded in the city. The maximum humidity was recorded at 89 per cent and the minimum at 50 per cent in Chandigarh.

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and isolated areas in Haryana during the next 24 hours.
