MCD passes resolution to stop sealing in rural areas

New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) The Standing Committee of the MCD today passed a resolution calling for stopping sealing of commercial properties in rural areas in view of special provisions made in this regard in the 2021 Delhi Master Plan.

The resolution was introduced in the House by Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia and Leader of the Opposition in the MCD House Jaikishen Sharma.

Speaking at the meeting, Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the MCD had resolved not to undertake sealing of commercial properties in village areas in view of special provisions under the 2021 Delhi Master Plan.

He said the Monitoring Committee, in a meeting held last week, had asked the MCD to initiate sealing of commercial properties in village areas and farmhouses.

Stressing that the Master Plan has equated villages with special areas like the old city areas and its extensions and Karol Bagh (designated as Special area), Mr Gupta directed commissioner A K Nigam to apprise the Monitoring committee of the special status and protection of village areas under the 2021 Delhi Master Plan.

Mr Gupta said the section 4.2.2.2 of the Master Plan says that the villages were also considered at par with the aforesaid special areas as they also have the same traits. The socio-economic changes in these old unplanned areas, specially in villages, have been substantial.

It further stipulates that the redevelopment plans should ensure that the permissibility of mixed use zoning at property or within the premise level is compatible to the predominant residential areas.
