KMC assures safe water for Howrah residents
Howrah, Sep 11 (UNI) The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) today assured the Howrah residents that the purification process of the Padmapukur water tank had been completed and they could use the water safely.
KMC Water Supply Deputy Chief Engineer Debabrata Biswas here said, ''The water has been purified using huge quantity of chlorine to ensure that no trace of germs remain. People can now use the water safely for drinking and other purposes.'' West Bengal PWD Minister Ashok Bhattacharya had ordered the KMC to ensure complete purification following the recovery of a decomposed body in a water tank of Padmapukur water plant station under Howrah Municipal Corporation on September seven.
KMC Water Supply Deputy Engineer Sukumar Dutta said pathologists had also examined the water plant station to supervise the purification process.
District Magistrate (DM) Khalil Ahmad had asked the people under the corporation not to consume the water already supplied and announced that water would be supplied only after proper treatment.
Meanwhile, police said investigation was on in this connection to ascertain whether it was a suicide or murder.
