JMM demonstrates over poor condition of Railway bridge

Jamshedpur,Sep 11 (UNI) Hundreds of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(JMM) activists today sat on a dharna and demonstrated before the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner's office here over the poor condition of the newly-built Railway overbridge near Tatanagar station.

The agitation, led by JMM central committee secretary Nasar Firdausi, demanded immediate repairing of the bridge, which was constructed only eight months back at a cost of Rs eight crore and urged actions against those who were involved in the construction work.

Mr Firdausi submitted a memorandum to railway minister Lalu Prasad through the DC in which he alleged that the Railway officials and the engineers of the construciton company were involved in embezzlement of funds alloted for the construction of the bridge.

He also demanded black listing of the construction company Sentex India Limited and arrest its General Manager S K Basu and suspension of the chief administration officer,South Eastern Railways, for their involvement in alleged misappropriation of funds.

Mr Firdausi said the overbridge was the lifeline as it connected vast areas of in and around the station areas and thousand of vehicles crossed everyday but any incident could happen due to its dilapidated condition.
