JAC calls three days Non-Cooperation movement
Shillong, Sept 11 (UNI) The Joint Action Committee (JAC) for the North Garo Hills District Demand Movement has called three-day Non-Cooperation Movement in Meghalaya's Northern part of Garo Hills.
The Movement would be effective on September 14, 17 and 18 from 0500 hours to 1700 hours to force the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for the creation of the North Garo Hills district, JAC Publicity Secretary Aldrin D.Sangma told UNI over the phone from Williamnagar today.
Mr Sangma said creation of the North Garo Hills District is a long cherished dream of the people of this region which at present under Resubelpara Civil Sub-Division and reminded that movement of the people started since 1995.
The JAC took up the matter with AICC President Sonia Gandhi during her last state assembly election campaign at Resubelpara, he said.
He, however, said the ruling Congress government in the state is yet to fulfil the promise of Ms Gandhi as well as aspiration of the people of this region even when the MDA government is going to complete its 5 year term and the next election is drawing nearer.
