International agencies to strive for Kalazar eradication in Bihar

Patna, Sep 11 (UNI) The international agencies have started working in tandem with the High Power Committee for the eradication of Kalazar in Bihar.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a meeting with the representatives of the international agencies, including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Institute For One World Health, the Chairman of the High Power committee and Kalazar expert Dr C P Thakur.

Mr Kumar told newspersons here that the international agencies had shown their interest for eradication of Kalazar, Malaria and Diarrhoea in the state.

He said those agencies would work in collaboration with the High Power Committee, constituted by the state governnment for Kalazar eradication.

The committee, headed by Dr Thakur, had already launched various programmes for the purpose under which DDT was being sprayed all over the state.

The government was constructing buildings and houses where sand fly could not breed and medicines were being provided free of cost to the patients, Mr Kumar informed.

He said the international agencies had already reviewed the situation in Samastipur, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and East Champaran districts of North Bihar.

Mr Kumar said the World Bank would also collaborate in Kalazar eradication programme in Bihar.

Meanwhile, the government had initiated several steps to fight against the spread of Kalazar under which the civil surgeons had been directed to provide Rs 50 per day to each and every Kalazar patients whether they were admitted to the hospital or getting treatment on private basis.

Besides this, the government had also decided to provide food free of cost to the patient, admitted to the hospital and one of his attendants.
