HP High Court stays work at hydro electric project sight

Shimla Sep 11 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court today stayed stop all construction activities at Alian Duhangan hydro-electric project sight in Kullu district of the state.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta and Justice Rajeev Sharma considered the interim prayers of the petitioners Dhumia Ganga Sangarsh Samiti and issued notice to the state government, central government, State Pollution Control Board and the Rajyasthan Spinning Mill, the company executing the project.

The court directed the respondents to file their reply within four weeks.

The petitioner had alleged that the company executing the project has caused huge loss to the residents of the Prini area and Jagat Sukh Village.

Several hundred trees have been fell illegally by the company and all the places for grazing the cattle of the villagers were being destroyed, the petitioner said.

Alleging that residents of Jagat Sukh village were not taken in confidence while granting the project a no objection certificate, the petitioner said the construction of this project has adversely affected tourism in the Kullu Valley.

The petitioner urged the court to direct the respondent to register a case against the company and cancel all the approvals granted in to the company.
