Court orders inquiry into charges against minister

Kottayam, Sep 11 (UNI) Ettumanoor First Class Magistrate P K Prasannakumari today directed the police to inquire into the charges against Kerela Health Minister P K Sreemathy, who visited the Kiliroor sex scandal victim at hospital.

The court issued the direction to the police under CrPc 156 (3) on a petition filed by Kiliroor-Kaviyoor Action Council Convenor Raju Puzhankara, alleging that victim Shari's health condition had deteriorated after Ms Sreemathy's visit.

The petition was filed under section 299 (culpable homicide) and 506 (threatening). Shari was undergoing treatment for post-delivery complications when Ms Sreemathy visited her at the hospital.

She died on November 13, 2004.
