Centre clears Rs 256 Cr Projects for improving Urban transport infra

Bangalore, Sep 11 (UNI) The Union Government has cleared eight projects of Rs 256 Crore aimed at improving the urban transport infrastructure in the City under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Karnataka Minister for Transport N Cheluvarayaswamy said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) plans to set up 45 Traffic Transit Management Centres (TTMC) to demonstrate the possible best practices in sustainable transport facility in the city.

He said the BMTC immediately plans to build eight TTMCs in the City at a cost of Rs 256 crore in the next 30 months.

The BMTC has a vision plan with an outlay of Rs 3000 crore over the next five years emphasising on development of urban transport infrastructures, induction of world class high tech buses, adoption of IT technology to enhance service level and to bring in intelligent transport systems besides strengthening of the human resources, he added.

He said that the Vision Plan has been incorporated in the City Development Plan (CDP) formulated by the state government as a pre-requisite to access JNNURM funds.

The BMTC had identified ten TTMCs out of 45 TTMCs proposed as a development of transport infrastructure under JNNURM and accordingly detail projects reports were sent to the Centre, he added.

He said that the Centre has cleared eight of the ten projects proposed by the state government with Jayanagar TTMC taken up as an innovative pilot project at a cost of Rs 8.90 crore.
