BJP condemns inhuman attitudes of Congress leaders
New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) The BJP today condemned the 'inhuman attitude' of Union Textiles Minister Shankar Singh Vaghela and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh for seeing 'laziness' among the farmers as a reason for their suicides.
BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said it was ironic that the ministers were blind to the laziness in the governmental system which had not ensured fair and remunerative returns for the agricultural produce. Thousands of farmers have committed suicides in the Congress ruled Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and these two leaders should make an introspection of the laziness on the part of the Governments.
These leaders should realise that it was their laziness which had denied the farmers their due returns and they should be ashamed to point fingers at the farmers who were working hard in hard circumstances. They should ask for themselves why the farmers were still killing themselves even after the so called economic package of the Prime Minister was in place? He asked.
The farmers today are getting lower returns than what they got in 1997, Mr Javadekar alleged.
Answering a question on Ram Sethu, Mr Javadekar said the opposition against breaching of the bridge for the Sethu Samudram project was not because of religious beliefs but it veered around saving of a heritage site revered by not just the Hindus but also the Christians and Muslim communities.
Breaking the bridge would have several adverse implications including the disturbing of Thorium reserves under the sea, which are capable of being used for power generation and also protection of the eastern and western coasts from tsunami effects.
