Agitators set 10-day deadline to shift or shelve Chamlapura Plant

Mysore, Sep 11 (UNI) Association Concerned and Interested Citizens of Mysore (ACICM), which is spear heading agitation against proposed Chamalapur Thermal Power Plant, today set a 10 day deadline to the Karnataka government to either shelve or shift the proposed Rs 5,500 Crore in the District.

"After deadline, the ACICM would launch agitation in phases till the government gives up the 550MW project which would have drastic impact on environment and displacement of farmers," Association Convenor M Lakshmana told newsmen here.

He said that in the first phase of agitation, thousands of farmers would launch 'Rajbhavan chalo' and it would be followed by indefinite hunger strike in front of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's House in Bangalore, next holding demonstration before the office of eight Companies in Bangalore which are vying for the project, he added.

Mr Lakshmana said that a demonstration was planned before the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) on September 13 with farmers staying a protest in Mandya on the same day.
