Washington's 'unity march' terminates at Gandhi Memorial
Washington, Sep 10 (UNI) The third 'Unity Walk', marking the anniversary Of September 11 attacks and designed to promote understanding among people of all faiths, ended in a rally at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in front of the Indian embassy here yesterday.
It began at the Washington Hebrew Congregation, bringing together people of the world's faiths and cultures to 'celebrate the unity of humanity in a world struggling with religious intolerance'.
During the Walk, marchers were greeted by faith leaders in front of their houses of worship, including 'the Papal Nuncio at the Archdiocese and Sikh granthes in front of their Gurdwara'.
The
organisers
of
the
event
in
a
statement
said,
''We
walk
together
as
neighbors
from
many
faiths
and
cultures.
We
gather
in
peace
to
demonstrate
our
unity,
recalling
the
spirit
of
togetherness
that
grew
out
of
9/11.
We
commemorate
this
day
because
concern
for
each
other's
welfare
is
the
shared
hope
of
us
all.''
