Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Sep 10: Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia today after being arrested and deported within hours of arriving in Pakistan from exile, Saudi sources said.

They said Sharif's plane touched down in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, where he was met by a Saudi official, and that he would be allowed to resume his exile in the Muslim kingdom where he has lived for seven year.

Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf had sent Sharif to exile in Saudi Arabia in 2000 after toppling his government in 1999. Saudi Arabia had asked Sharif not to return to Pakistan.
