N-deal: Yechury flays BJP's 'double standards'

Visakhapatnam, Sep 9: CPI(M) polit bureau member Sitaram Yechury today alleged that the main Opposition BJP was adopting ''double standards'' on the Indo-US nuclear deal. Speaking at a 'meet-the-press' programme here, organised by the Visakhapatnam Journalists Forum (VJF), he said the BJP was clamouring for institution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which had no bearing on the government's decision on the deal.

The deal warranted a discussion before operationalising it, he added.

He wondered why India was depending on the US to develop its nuclear energy programme, when the country had alternative sources to meet the growing energy demands.
