Chennai, Sep 9 (UNI) The fledgling Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) got an 'HRD boost' ahead of its third founding day, with Ma Foi Management Consultants Managing Director K Pandia Rajan quitting the BJP and joining the party.

Mr Pandia Rajan, also the BJP Tamil Nadu unit Commerce Cell Convener, joined the DMDK along with 2,000 of his supporters by presenting a shawl and a bouquet of flowers to actor-politician and DMDK founder Vijayakant.

Apart from Mr Pandia Rajan, Mr Chellam Devadoss, State BJP Minority Morcha President, Co-Conveners of Commerce Cell Ashok Sundaresan and Erode Kandaswamy also quit the BJP and joined the DMDK. Those who joined the DMDK along with Mr Pandiarajan included doctors, software engineers, chartered accountants, women SHG leaders, social workers and entrepreneurs.

Speaking after admitting them into his party, Vijayakant said this reflected the growth of the DMDK in the political arena.

Talking to UNI, Mr Pandia Rajan refused to give reasons for quitting the BJP, but said DMDK was an alternative to the DMK and the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.

''We joined the DMDK to strengthen the hands of the 'Captain' (as Vijayakant is affectionately called by his fans). Joining the DMDK is an endeavour to strengthen the emergence of a genuine alternative in Tamil Nadu and to contribute to a clean political system,'' he said.

Mr Pandia Rajan said he (Vijayakant) was very much oriented towards HRD, development of which could not be achieved without political power.

The DMDK's third founding day would be celebrated in a grand manner in Pudukottai on September 14.
