Services Board lift Administrator's Challenge Cup

Chandigarh, Sep 9 (UNI) Services Sports Control Board had to work extra time to defeat a never-say-die New Public School Football Academy of Sector 18 by 3-1 in the final of the fifth edition of the Administrator's Challenge Cup Football Tournament for Under-17 organised by the Chandigarh Sports Department.

The teams were level at 1-1 in the regulation 80-minute session.

The NPS players today closely policed top scorers of Services Jacki Chand Singh. However, Jacki managed to break free and he scrored the third goal for his team.

Both teams were evenly matched and had equal exchanges. However, it was New Public School Academy which drew first blood in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Academy kept this slender lead intact till 75th minute when the Services lads equalised through Bobo Singh.

The match went into extra time during which the Services team scored two goals within a span of two minutes. It was Lakhi Ram Murmur who put the Services team ahead in the 92nd minute. Two minutes later, the best player of the tournament and prolific scorer Jacki Chand Singh sealed the fate of NPS Academy.

Harbir Singh of NPS Academy was declared the best goalkeeper of the tournament. L Singh of Services Sports Control Board was adjudged the best player of the match.

Adviser to the Chandigarh Administrator Lalit Sharma distributed the prizes.
