Punjab police arrests former DGP from Delhi
Chandigarh, Sep 9: A team of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) of the Punjab police arrested former Punjab DGP S S Virk from Delhi this morning, the police sources here said.
Mr Virk was arrested in a disproportionate assets case registered against him by the VB at Mohali recently. Mr Virk was DGP of the Punjab Police during the tenure of former chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
When the SAd-BJP government came into power in March this year, Mr Virk was placed under suspension in a fraud case registered against him on the complaint of a widow of Mohali. Mr Virk went back to his home cadre Maharashtra after the expiry of his deputation period in May but he was not given any posting by the government of that state. The punjab government had expressed its displeasure to the union home ministry over the later's decision to send virk back to Maharashtra.
